Experts in coordinating work on gas connections
Our position in the industry allows us to easily coordinate gas connections with minimal fuss. We aim to guarantee as little disruption to your premises as possible. With that in mind, you will be given your very own Account Manager to ensure one single point of contact throughout. That way, the whole process can remain simple, without the need to contact multiple parties.
From start to finish, we can oversee every aspect of your gas connection work including:
- New gas connections
- Gas meter installations
- Gas disconnections
- Gas meter removals
- Gas pipe alterations
- Energy supply agreements
- Divert any existing service or mains
- Reinforcement of the network
What information do you need for a new gas connection?
When you apply for a new gas connection with GEC, we need the following information to ensure the application is straightforward and quick, including:
- The address of the property (domestic and commercial) that needs the connection. If the property is a new build and it’s not yet registered, you can provide us with the name of the site
- A site plan / drawing of the property that indicates where you wish the gas meter to be installed/where it’s positioned so we can determine how complex the job is
How much does it cost to connect gas to a house or business?
As there are so many variables to consider when installing a new gas connection we cannot provide you with a price straight away. The cost of installation is dependent on various factors including:
- How remote your location is
- The number of appliances you will be running
- If the property previously had a connection
- The complexity of the work needed
- The distance of the meter from the mains supply
When we provide a quote we have performed multiple checks to make sure there are no nasty surprises when it comes to doing the work, providing you with peace of mind that there won’t be any additional charges.
How do I find out if there is a nearby supply?
If you are within a well populated area then chances are you have a nearby connection. For more rural areas, if you have neighbours close by then asking them can provide you with an answer. For anyone living in more rural areas who do not have neighbours, you can contact GEC and we will be able to assist you in answering your questions and advise you on the next steps to take.
If there is a supply nearby, can I get connected?
Yes, if there’s a supply close by, GEC can get it connected to your property in no time. Whether you’re a commercial or domestic customer, we have the tools and expertise to overlook the entire process.
Remember, a connection only provides a source of gas. You’ll also need an Ofgem registered company to install a meter at your property too.
How do I find out who my supplier is?
All UK properties with a gas connection have an MPRN number and this is controlled and issued by the transporter. To find out who your supplier is, you can either look on a recent bill or contact GEC and we’ll be able to find this out for you.
How long does it take to install a new gas connection?
We cannot provide a definitive answer to this question, due to the fact that every gas connection installation is unique. We generally work to a time scale of 6 to 8 weeks after the job has been approved, but this is just a ball park figure.
