Do I need to arrange the disconnection of my gas supply?

Not if you just need your gas meter to be removed. You will have 6 months to get a new gas meter installed before the utility provider disconnects the gas supply at the source. They are very efficient with this process to avoid anyone  tapping into the gas supply without a meter.
